Anything
that is or can become a source for improving Pakistan’s overall
impression in the world is subject to a great controversy within the
country. If we go few years back, say 20 years, there was only one
state-sponsored channel that was solely responsible for covering those
aspects of life that the Government of Pakistan allowed it. Now that the
things have changed, there is a more than a hundred channels that have
established within last 10 years of development. An interesting point
here is, despite of encouraging the diversity these channels have
offered to their viewers, people often raise questions about whether the
media should be free to such an extent or not. Throughout this post we
will talk about this subject.
Freedom of Media as a Curse!
It has been a quality of the citizens of Pakistan
since the day it appeared on map, that they know how to derive the most
negative use of a thing that intends to add something positive in the
society. Similarly, the freedom of media has been exploited to such an
extent that now about 50% of the people, according to the statistics,
consider it as a curse. As a matter of fact, the 24/7 telecast of live
coverage often helps the terrorists and agencies that learn about all
the moves of the state forces and plan something for their escape. For
example, what I observed two days back was, a slide about rangers
possible raid in a locality ran on almost all televisions, which might
have helped the conspirators to escape from the place. Not only is this,
but the freedom of media often taken as a complete authority by the
channels and actors who telecast bold and vulgar programs just on the
name of freedom.
Freedom of Media as a Blessing
When we say that we want Pakistan to become a
developed country, we must therefore be ready to absorb the changes that
are working as strong factors in increasing the country’s overall
productivity. Talking about some negativities that has came with an
independent media, it is essential to throw some light on how important
the role of media is. Did people ever know what was happening in closed
doors where politicians could make as much money as they wished and
transferred much bigger amounts from Swiss banks than now? Did your
stories were ever given a voice before the free media emerged? Simply
no! The media today has given people the basic rights to identify with
what country is going through, learning about the hidden realities, and
at the same time, are now capable of competing the world in sports,
fashion, music, etc, just because they now know their real worth. Thanks
to media.
Every next thing you will come across in your life is
followed by two aspects, for some the glass is half filled, while for
some it is always half empty. With this note, we leave you with your
opinion.
