Ali Gul Pir New Song 'Super Saeen'

It’s not about Bilawal, Sindh or Sindhis. It’s about being a super saeen, which is basically being proud of who you are. Through this song we are trying to explain that it is cool to be who you are, you don’t have to adopt a foreign culture or accent to be cool. We have taken the saeen term and used it positively. It’s good to be a super saeen, everyone should be a one and be proud of their country.

In conversation with the viral hit-maker,  insight on Ali Gul Pir’s upcoming musical offering for the Sindh Festival.
How did your upcoming song Super Saeen come about? When is it coming out?
I tweeted something about Bilawal Bhutto. I joke about everyone, so I joked about him and he tweeted back saying that he’s been looking for me and wants to speak to me. I got a little worried, thinking he probably took offense to one of the things I said, however, he wanted to meet up and talk about the Sindh Festival that he is organising. Obviously, I had reservations because I always believe that the kind of line of work that I am in, and the kind of music that I produce, I have to be unbiased and cannot be politically affiliated with anyone.

What are your political affiliations after writing a song for Bilawal Bhutto?
There are none. I have simply been hired by the Sindh government to write and sing a song about Sindh and celebrate its diversity. My biggest reservation was being affiliated with any political party. I only accepted when I was convinced that I am being hired by an organisation for their event, the Sindh Festival, to represent my culture. I think people take provincial differences too seriously, I look at it differently. We can celebrate different cultures.
Your focus is mainly on Sindh, it isn’t very Pakistan oriented. Why?
What about Bohemia and all these Punjabi rappers? They even sing in Punjabi, at least whatever I sing is in Urdu and for everyone to hear. Knowing that I come from a certain Pakistani culture, I tend to portray the things around me.
What are the similarities between Super Saeen and Waderai Ka Beta? Are there any?
Not at all, they are completely different. A lot of people loved Waderai Ka Beta and then there was a group of people who thought I was mocking the Sindhi culture even though that isn’t true. I was making fun of a certain mindset, which could be a wadera, sardar or even the son of the CEO of some multinational company. The song just represented any spoilt brat who uses his power, influence and money negatively. The concept is completely different. The saeen term, however, has become a part of me and I will always be associated with it.
Do you feel you have become type-casted as a performer?
No I don’t feel that way. I have done songs about people staring at girls (Taaroo Maaroo) and I have done songs about politicians (VIP). I look at myself as an entertainer, if one character of mine has become well-known because the masses loved it, like Kabacha for Behroz Sabswari, it is going to stick with me, and I’m proud of it.
How has it been for you after Waderai Ka Beta? Has it been a bumpy road or a smooth ride?
It’s been more than great. Every few days I am reminded of how blessed I am. People can’t see the struggle you went through to get to this point, but you never forget. I have been living independently for two years, and there were times when I had money for only one meal a day. I did theatre to make ends meet. Remembering where you are from is very important. I have been doing well, I was invited by the American government to do five shows in the US, I won awards, I met Bilawal but I haven’t let any of that get to my head.
How did you deal with your new-found fame?
I promised myself that I would never change, but after some time I realized that even though you don’t change everything around you changes, it’s inevitable. Circumstances change and the people around you act different, but that doesn’t mean you become snobbish and egoistic, in fact you have to be more understanding and careful. The odds are against you and you just have to figure things out accordingly.
You must be getting a lot of attention from girls now, how does that feel?
I often get marriage proposals via text and email, that is very amusing. The attention is good, but I am not a very social, attention seeking kind of guy. I understand that its part of the job so I appreciate we love. I take it as part of my work.
What is in the works after the Sindh Festival?
I am working on my fourth independent track, that I will be releasing after the festival is over. I won’t reveal the name as yet but I will tell a little about what the song is about. When fame comes to you it literally feels like a rollercoaster till you get used to it, and once you get used to it, only then do you understand the dynamics of this industry. Having observed the media and the typical celebrity figure and the trends they follow, I have composed a song reflecting their attitude, how they change according to believing the world revolves around them.

Faiza Mujahid’s take on Music and Music Industry

Faiza Mujahid’s music is not about numbers. Since her coming-out party, with the film Khuda Ke Liye’s soundtrack, she says her work ethic has evolved more towards relating to the music she makes. There was a time when she wanted to make music for herself, to release albums and singles. Today, however, that is not the case and she has come to terms with that.
“There was a time when I wanted to make music my bread and butter, but I realised that there is no music industry to speak of, it caters to people who have already made it,” Mujahid tells. It’s been three years since Meri Zindagi was released, which presented her as one of Pakistan’s ultimate rock chicks. The song was very personal to her and seemed to connect well with her own place in life and her search for independence.
She laughs and says that she was in her 20s and going through a time when she felt that women in our society have a set timetable. The song had the sort of success that she didn’t realise would happen.
“It was really interesting because of the type of responses I got. There were many young girls and women who emailed me about how the song had given them motivation,” says Mujahid. That’s why her latest single Uth Oye is interesting. It doesn’t necessarily move beyond the phase of her 20s but it engages with, and tries to bring about, a sense of positivity to the picture. After three years in the shadows, Mujahid is restructuring her career priorities, and is approaching music in a different manner.
“People are always so negative. My idea now is that even if you know about the negative things, you should be thinking positively and being positive,” says Mujahid. Uth Oye has a sort of anthem feel to it, and the video tries to articulate Mujahid’s positive frame of mind.
“I can say this is my anthem. I don’t think I set out to make anthems or anything, but it’s how I feel, and these are things I feel strongly about and believe in, so people do find it motivational.”
The song is written and composed by Haider Hashmi, a good friend of Mujahid’s. The singer gave Hashmi full freedom to use his words to express what she was feeling. She says the experience has been fulfilling, since she is now making music on her own terms. The video showcases the stories of three females who have touched people on many levels.
Take for instance Farah Deeba, the 26-year-old who started an initiative to educate and provide schooling to underprivileged children at the tender age of 20. Today, her institute Alam Bibi Welfare caters widely to the underprivileged. The video also shows Sabira Sultana, a former burns’ victim who is now a patient coordinator at Depilex Smileagain Foundation. Sultan has overcome trauma to provide inspiration to many other women.
Haider Hashmi, who is best known for his cornerstone role in the band Aaroh, which is also making a slow comeback, said “I felt that the feeling had to be one of hope or umeed, since I had wanted to write for women who have to struggle so much on a daily-basis, so the idea was to portray the feeling that you cannot let anything bring you down,”. He also disclosed that he would be working on more projects with Mujahid, and that they had already penned a number of other songs.

Tie between Waar and Dhoom 3

It is a well-known fact that Waar has become the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time, but will it remain the highest-grossing film within Pakistan?
The movie’s latest competition is in the form of the third instalment of Bollywood franchise Dhoom. While Waar has earned a total of Rs230 million, Dhoom 3 isn’t far behind, and has raked in a sizeable Rs225 million.
There is a fair chance that Dhoom 3 will eventually be the clear winner of this race, and there are a number of reasons to support this. Firstly, it has almost equalled the total business of Waar in only 26 days, while it took Waar 36 days to reach the Rs200 million mark, and the latter is still playing on limited screens. With regard to screens, Dhoom 3 was released on 56 screens simultaneously, while Waar premiered on 52. That however, doesn’t make a significant difference. Dhoom 3 was expected to have crossed Waar’s record by now, but the release, and positive response to Dedh Ishqiya in local theatres has slowed down revenues for the Aamir Khan starrer.

Emraan Hashmi Leaves 'Shatir' movie because of Humaima Malick

Emraan Hashmi is might pissed with his Shatir co-star, Humaima Malik. The Dirty Picture actor, who is known for his punctuality and discipline in the industry, is irked with Humaima because she takes a lot of time to report for any shot. Incidentally, she was taken in the movie, partly because of Emraan Hashmi’s recommendation, who had liked her in the Pakistani movie Bol – her debut venture, which became the highest grosser then.
She is now making her debut in B-town with this film and apparently, roping her for the movie has caused the makers to further cut short on the already shoe-string budget of the movie. Also, the makers had to wait for the actor to be part of the shoot because of her visa issues. She is here in India on work permit visa, which would expire by the end of January 2014. Thus, the shoot has to wrap up before that.

Humaima is on a two film deal with UTV, but after seeing her tantrums, the production house is in two minds over casting her for the next film. If nothing else, we are pretty sure that Emraan Hashmi would definitely take a long look before he signs another film with the model-turned-actor.

Entertainment Industry of Pakistan in 2013

As 2013 has come to an end and it is a new beginning of a new year, while searching for a topic to write on I decided to highlight the major changes our entertainment industry went through. Some of the changes were very positive and brought a huge positive impact on our industry and some were totally negative. I will highlight the major ones and there impact on the industry. In 2013 the Pakistan Entertainment industry kept getting bigger and better, people returned back and started investing again in the cinemas and theatres. Many ventures took place and many of them changed the entire structure of the industry.
download
The biggest change or we can say the biggest comeback of the Pakistani cinema was with the film Waar. This film was the result of a three year hard work and it smashed many records at the local box office. The dialogues, the action and most of all the acting of the Pakistani actors need to be appreciated. This film is not only popular in Pakistan but it also had its launching in Dubai and other major countries. Bilal Lashari the director of the film plans to make many other films like Waar and give a new face to the Pakistani Cinema. We need new talent to work in the field of entertainment and media in Pakistan because this is the only way to revive the industry.

According to me the revival of the theatre also took place in 2013 with the wonderful plays of Anwar Maqsood. He took a start from Pawnay Chauda August and it sequel Sawa Chauda August. Both of these plays were popular in a huge number of audiences. They were shown in many of the major cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Aangan Terha and Half playt were the other plays that also became famous. His work is timeless and this is why he is very popular among the people of Pakistan. People like Anwar Maqsood are the living legends of Pakistan. They are the people who are an inspiration for the youth and we have a lot to learn from them.

Coming to the music in 2013, a program named Lahooti live sessions started. This was a platform that gave a totally new dimension to folk music. Saif Samejo, accompanied by young volunteers from Sind, started preserving the sounds of Sindhi folk without any form of sponsorship. The quality of the music produced as a result of this venture speaks volumes of the service this will prove to be for cultural preservation. In my opinion programs and platforms like these must be encouraged because this is the only and easy way to preserve and show our culture to the outside world.

Zinda_Bhaag

In the year 2013, Pakistan formed its very own National Oscar Committee which consisted of seasoned academics and artists. This committee was headed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. This committee had to face a huge criticism but still it didn’t lose hope and this is what made it successful. It made the film named Zinda Bhaag which was Pakistan’s second ever entry to the foreign film oscar race after the gap of 50 years.

More over Hamza Ali Abbasi turned out to be the most promising actor after his excellent roles in Main Hoon Shahid Afridi and Waar, while Aamina Sheikh was definitely the female star of the big screen. She offered memorable performances in both Lamha and Josh. This year, she also introduced Youmatter, a smart phone application aimed at raising Breast Cancer awareness. Apart from this, Zoe Viccaji turned up as one of the most hardworking female singers in Pakistan, because she has consciously worked on her shortcomings as a vocalist and her intent to improve with each offering reflects in her songs. She is undoubtedly the voice of the year, a voice that was heard in every jingle, some catchy OSTs and brilliant solo tracks. She was all over the billboards for Cornetto Music Icons and Coke Studio.
These were some of the major new happenings in the entertainment industry of Pakistan in 2013 and we are hoping anxiously to make a bigger and a better start with this New Year. Let us all join hands and make a promise that we will contribute whatever we can to work as for the nation and this will be our new year’s resolution. If every individual take an initiative, our country will never be backward. So lets make a new start, shine a light and send it on.

Shehzad Rafique making a film on the journey of a martyr

“I had been searching for a script to follow-up Ishq Khuda. I was divided over the idea of making a comedy or an action film, but a politician’s statement made the choice very easy for me,” explained Rafique.
“I just couldn’t understand how he [Munawar Hassan] could make such a careless statement about the armed forces fighting on the frontline,” he added.
The film Salute will not be an ISPR-funded project. In fact, it will be Rafique’s attempt to explore the questions of morality surrounding extremism, and will give thorough insight into the journey of an individual from a man to a martyr. Film is an important medium that can be used to challenge extremist ideologies surrounding war on terror, and, more importantly, religious intolerance.
“This film will not be made on an agenda in terms of funding. It’s sort of a tribute to the journey of a young man and the challenges he faces on his way to becoming an army officer,” said Rafique.
“Till now, every film I have made always tries to address a broader question. I am over 40, I don’t feel the need to make a fun film. My target is to make an issue-based film that is serious.”
Even in an earlier movie, Rafique touched upon a sensitive topic. His previous film Ishq Khuda aimed to challenge the notion of extremist ideologies by addressing the idea of true love and spirituality. It also openly challenged rigidity and the fundamentalism that has flourished on a societal level.
Salute is currently being scripted by writer Tariq Ismail. He is hoping to cast Ahsan Khan in the lead role, with Nadeem Baig and Atiqa Odho as part of the cast, depending on availability. He will shoot major portions of the film at military academies as he feels that it is time to move beyond the methods of formula filmmaking. “The things that have to stand out in every film are emotions and sentiments. This is the only formula that matters. The rest is your story, your characters, and your topics,” said Rafique.
It is worth mentioning that Rafique is planning on giving young directors a platform under his production banner. He said that he plans on grooming his assistant directors for feature films and would be launching them in the near future.
When Assistant Director Hasnat Afridi was asked to give some insight on this upcoming movie Salute, he said, “This is not your typical story on the armed forces. Whatever I have seen of the script is very original, because it gets into the details of how one man becomes an army officer and the hurdles he comes across.”
He said that the film is not necessarily about the armed forces, but focuses primarily on patriotism and an officer’s life. Afridi disclosed that the film would be shot in Swat and Karachi and have some scenes shot in America, as well, since there is a parallel storyline set there.
“We are planning a lot of interesting things for the film. The main point is that the story will focus on the officer himself and there will be an element of patriotism. We are also planning on including a large production team, so that we can introduce more young people to the film industry,” said Afridi.

Actress Meera Nikah Nama Photocopy has recieved

Meera video scandal is gaining popularity and it is not more than a fake video. The popularity is just making the actress notorious in the eyes of people. The father in law of Meera says the video of Meera is not original and people have been spreading it to defame her daughter.
Meera’s career with the Pakistani media industry has been riddled with controversy. She gained fame with a TV commercial back in 1994, and since then has moved on to act in over 200 films. Besides Lollywood, Meera has also worked in several Bollywood films as well.
Lollywood star Meera caused a stir when a marriage certificate obtained by the media revealed the actor has been married to Pakistani-American airline captain Naveed Pervaiz for over two months now
Meera had announced her engagement with Captain Naveed, but did not mention a wedding.
There are rumors that the marriage certificate has been made public and revealed to many TV news channels. The marriage certificate identifies the groom as “Naveed Perveez” and the bride as “Irtaza Rubab” (understood to be Meera’s real name).
According to the document, Naveed was born in 1978 and Meera on Dec 12 in 1977, which makes her 37 years old.
Rumours of the couple’s possible marriage first began circulating in February 2012, when Meera’s family reportedly accepted Naveed’s proposal
The groom’s family said the plan was to hold off public announcement of the wedding until 2014, when both parties would host a proper wedding ceremony complete with festivities.
The bride, however, denied news of the ‘nikkah‘ released today, and told that she was completely focused on her hospital for now.
Meera has said in the past that people are intent on maligning her unnecessarily to disturb and distract her from her efforts for building a charity, which is intended to provide free cardio services to the impoverished people of Haroonabad.

Waar highest rated film of 2013 on IMDb

The most anticipated and hyped Pakistani movie, Waar, which was also a hit at the local box office, is the highest rated feature film of 2013, according to IMDb.
The movie was given a rating of 9.1 out of 10 in a polling based on more than 10,000 users rating, ranking above films like The Wolf of Wall Street and Gravity. No Bollywood film made it to the top five. However, Farhan Akhtar’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag sits comfortably at a position of number 8. Despite such impressive public statistics, the movie did not make it anywhere in the top ten of IMDb’s MOVIE meter.
Director Bilal Lashari, enthusiastic about the public opinion, shared his feelings with The Express Tribune, saying “This was not just a reaction to a film, but a show of immense love and support from proud fellow Pakistanis and a new beginning for our national cinema.”
