Armaghan Shahid was born in Lahore to the well-known director Riaz Shahid and television, theater and film actress Neelo. His father was a Muslim whereas his mother was Christian. He himself is a practicing Muslim. His paternal uncle Fiaz Shahid was a cameraman and producer for PTV in Islamabad. He started out his early education at the prestigious Aitchison College. His first acting venture came out at a boy scouts bonfire. He won the best actor's award in a play called Alif Noon, playing a comedy character but never took acting seriously as a career. After leaving Aitchison, he left for New York, United States and joined Newtown High School. Dreaming of becoming a lawyer due to his extraordinary talent of convincing people, he always thought he had a talent to become a lawyer. He stayed in New York for 7 years and then returned to Pakistan for vacation where he took up the family business, Riaz Shahid Films. At the age of 17, he did his first film as a debutante in "Bulandi" which was released in 1990 & was a huge success.

Shaan made his acting debut in Javed Fazil's Bulandi (1990), in which he starred opposite Reema Khan. The film received generally positive reviews, making it a commercial success and caused Shaan to be flooded with offers by directors at the time. Bulandi was followed up by Nagina, another hit in which he starred opposite Madiha Shah. However, due to inexperience and signing of too many films, it resulted in many back to back flops. He took a break from the cinema industry in 1994 and went abroad. In 1996, he returned and starred in Syed Noor's Ghoonghat, which was his first villain role. The film went on to become a success. He then appeared in the same director's Sangam, yet another commercial success across Pakistan. In 2000, he appeared in Mujhe Chand Chahiye, which also starred Atiqa Odho and Javed Sheikh. Keen on making a difference to filmmaking in Pakistan, Shaan launched himself as a director. He directed his ambitious project Guns and Roses - Ik Junoon, which was released in 1999. The film was produced by the art entrepreneur Tanvir Fatima Rehman. In the film, he co-starred with Faisal Rehman, Meera and Resham. The music was scored by M. Arshad while the cinematographer was done by Azhar Burki and the film was written by Pervaiz Kaleem. He then directed Moosa Khan (2001), which starred himself, Saima, Abid Ali, Jan Rambo and Noor. The film received genuinely positive reviews from critics. Shaan is working on Chup alongside Juggan Kazim. The film is written by Mashal Peerzada and distributed/produced by Lux productions. The film will feature Pakistani actress Resham in an "item number". The shooting of her song was shown on ARY Digital show Happenings in July 2010. According to Shaan, the music soundtrack is composed by Zeb and Haniya with several newcomers. In a interview with Instep Magazine, Shaan confirmed to be working on three more projects with will feature Juggan Kazim whilst talks are on with models Natasha. The film is a commercial drama film set in Pakistan winter time and unfolds a dramatic but thoughtful film. Atif Aslam: It is difficult to make it big as celebrity in Pakistan

Wildly popular singer Atif Aslam has enjoyed a substantial edge over his contemporaries and amassed a colossal fan following at home and abroad. From Aadat to Woh Lamhe, Aslam’s journey from pop music to Bollywood is one many on this side of the border dream of. He says it takes determination and persistence to become a star. “It was and still is difficult to make it big in Pakistan as a celebrity or artiste,” he tells The Express Tribune. “There are many hurdles aspiring artistes face.”
Atif says he started as a lone ranger, with no help from marketing or PR agencies after his split from Jal. He is now nearing the 10-year mark of his career. “I managed to do things on my own and most importantly, I believed in myself. Pakistan still has a long way to go.”
Although he feels there is immense talent in both Pakistan and India, the difference lies in quality. The voices found in each country are distinctive in their own ways, he says. “Every soil has its own sound,” continues Aslam. “Pakistan’s is unique and admirable.”

While he hopped over to Bollywood early on his career, Atif has high hopes for his country. He was a part of Pakistani feature film Bol which garnered an exceptional response at the box office due to its poignant script. “I didn’t care about the money back then. I knew Bol had the kind of script I would like to be a part of, and I was. It had a message for the young ones and its purpose was served,” he says. He believes in the resurgence of Pakistani cinema. “If a movie has a good script or a good song, I will do it.”
When asked how he feels about music talent hunts, Atif dismisses them as short-term success solutions. “Six months and that’s it,” he says, referring to the fame contestants earn.
After being a judge on Indian singing reality show Sur Kshetra, which featured contestants from both Pakistan and India, Atif feels such platforms are beneficial for an artiste who wants to get noticed and gain fame only for a limited amount of time till they find actual work. For this reason, Atif says he declined to be on the judging panel of the upcoming Pakistan Idol, which includes Bushra Ansari, Ali Azmat and Hadiqa Kiyani. “People might watch Pakistan Idol, but that’s pretty much it.”
After singing for B-town heartthrobs Shahid and Ranbir Kapoor, Atif has now decided to focus on a music album. He aims to release the rocker inside him and unveil a different genre via his album which is scheduled to release mid 2014, three years after his last album release. “It will be a selection of numerous compositions — the album can be a hit or a miss,” he says.
The singer, who recently married his long-time sweetheart Sara Bharwana, says his life has changed for the better. “It’s amazing. I believe I have a partner who shares my responsibilities with me, which is great,” he smiles.

Turkish Serials in Pakistan, showing vulgarity of people’s choice?

Turkish Plays have become so much common and popular in Pakistan in such small time. Last year Pakistani drama ‘Humsafar’, directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat was a great emerge in world of Drama industry of Pakistan. It was not late then Turkish Dramas were introduced in our country.
The very first play that came into being was ‘Ishq e Mamnoon’ which was dubbed by Urdu Channel for the first time. The play captured every ones attention including the critiques till the very end.
Not forgetting to say, the same enthusiasm and attention was seen for Indian dramas few years back. The extreme fashion and over-graded emotions of neighbouring dramas petrified our audience for a very long time.
Since after lose of interest from the Indian plays, Pakistan Drama industry was emerging with very well directed plays which captured every ones interest. Not lately, the Turkish Culture popped out from nowhere and attained a great number of viewer rate ship.
At present, many Turkish Plays are broadcasted on different Pakistani channels has have attained a great fan toll due to its charming culture, expensive fashion trends and attractive blonde artists.

Here the question arises, are our channels justifying presenting these foreign culture with choice of people? Will this give a severe blow to our culture and ideology?
The Turkish plays are blend of not only foreign culture but also they are present such practices that are against the values of Islam. For example alcohol drinking, inappropriate dressing sense and using drugs. This is threatening for our cultural and norms.
And moreover, condemning over Turkish plays, they are creating dual-standards in media, because it is not for the first time our culture in invaded by outer power. Long before we have experienced the neighbors do so.

The Turkish plays on other hand have much in content to learn form like their dramas are filled with societal reflections. But their bold presentation of vulgarity and practices against our culture and Islam are main topic of concern.

Fahad Mustafa, Sanam Saeed and Iman Ali To Star Together In a Movie!

With the Pakistani cinema slowly gaining momentum, film makers are being encouraged to produce good quality, high budgeted movies. The latest news is that names like Fahad Mustafa, Iman Ali, and Sanam Saeed have been casted together for an upcoming movie.
The good news is that the famous television director, Anjum Shehzad has also stepped into the field of Lollywood to play his role in the revival of Pakistan Film Industry. Anjum Shahzad has a big budgeted movie in his hands now and leaving behind the tradition of casting traditional Lollywood hero and heroines; he has decided to take Model and Actress Iman Ali, Actor, Producer and Anchor Fahad Mustafa, and the rising star of Pakistani Television post Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Sanam Saeed as the three main leads in his upcoming movie.
Iman Ali made her debut in Lollywood through the movie, ‘Khuda Ke Liyeah’ which was a huge success. Fahad Mustafa has done everything; from acting, to anchoring, to production. The only arena left to explore is Lollywood, and he has been looking forward to do a quality movie for quite some time now. He had signed a movie before and had also shot for it, but the shooting was stopped midway and the movie was scrapped which left him pretty disappointed at that time. But now he is getting another chance to venture into Lollywood. He has reached the heights of popularity as a Television actor; it will be interesting to see if he would be able to prove his mettle as a film actor too.
It will also be the first big scale movie for Sanam Saeed; previously she had appeared in a Tarang Telefilm called ‘Dil Mera Dhadkan Teri’ alongside Sarwat Gillani and Ahsan Khan. Though the telefilm was not very impressive, but Sanam’s performance was appreciated by all. She has a huge fan following and her fans will be the happiest seeing her on the big screen.

Besides the cast, all other information about the movie is kept hidden, including its title. It seems to be a growing trend in Lollywood for filmmakers to try their level best to keep ‘maximum details’ a secret such as the title of the movie and songs to create curiosity amongst the audiences. They usually wait for the right moment to disclose the details.
The story of the movie is written by Sarmad Sehbai who has given some successful projects in the past. He is a popular poet, playwright and theater play’s director and has proved himself from time to time.
According to sources, the shooting of the movie already commenced in Karachi a few days ago, and the actors have shot for their respective scenes.
Hope we get to hear a confirmation from the actors soon!

Saba Qamar’s big “NO” to Bollywood

Saba Qamar is among the leading actresses of Pakistan. Her extra ordinary expressions, stupendous dialogue delivery skills and good looks forms a deadly combination and for that she is considered as first choice of directors and producers. Her career is now at its peak and at this time, she got an offer for Bollywood project opposite to Randeep Hooda.

There comes a time when an artist has to make an intelligent decision whether he has to stay and work in one’s own country and gets relatively less wage relative to what she will do while living in some other country.
Honestly speaking, for an actress, there arises bulk of questions from showbiz industry when she leaves her own industry and gets ready to shake hands with foreign projects. She has to pass through various controversies then those costumes which will always make her center of discussion of all critics. Further, I have always observed that our actresses have never been assigned with some great roles and projects in Indian movies. And the movies they have done in Bollywood so far have poor storyline too. So,one can not extract out the best of her acting skills while working in Bollywood films(for Pakistani actresses only).
With this point, Saba Qamar took intelligent decision and denied to work in Bollywood movies. According to me, it was a wise decision by her and I really appreciate that.
