Pepsi Smash comes to Pakistan, to counter Coke Studio effects

he fate of Pakistani music industry has been quite a debatable topic over the years but the 8th of June 2008 marked the birth of the exact savior needed, as Coke Studio emerged with a handful of the biggest names in the country’s music scene.
Created by the Coca-Cola Company and Managed by Executive Producer Rohail Hyatt, the show became a phenomenal one in a very short amount of time and with the ever increasing success, ran for five seasons with the sixth one in the works. Seeing how well the multinational soft drink company was doing and topping charts, longtime rival PepsiCo entered the ball game and is now planning to launch a music show of its own titled Pepsi Smash.

It is learnt that the Pepsi Smash project will be managed by drummer of Overload band, Farhad Humayun, as few of the show recordings have been held at his own music studio, Riot Studios. It should be recalled that recently, Strings uploaded a photo of themselves standing at what seemed to be a recording studio with the Overload band member and one from SYMT with the caption:
“Just recorded two brand new songs with some brilliant musicians in Lahore. Songs are part of a project and will be released mid January next year.”
Later, SYMT lead vocalist Haroon Shahid also released a statement which gave a possible clue of what the collaborated project might be.
“Shooting and recording the biggest project yet after Coke Studio for SYMT tonight at Riot Studios!”
The series of clues and hints continued as rooky Jarar Malik, Aag band’s lead vocalist Haroon Sheikh and the country’s pioneers of pop rock Noori band released similar statements which pretty much not only revealed that all of them are not only collaborating with each other but are doing it for something big and worth living up to the expectation.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan to Release in Pakistan

Following the cinematic bans of Bollywood films Agent Vinod and Ek Tha Tiger due to slight anti-Pakistani motives, there was a slight fear that the same would be the fate of the upcoming romantic film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan – directed by the late Yash Chopra and starring Shahrukh Khan. The soubt originated after King Khan revealed that his role was that of an army officer in Kashmir. Owing a lot to IMGC Global Entertainment for convincing the fact that the film contains no anti-Pakistani actions; the Yash Raj Films product will indeed be released in Pakistan.
After the sudden death of Yash Chopra, Chairman of IMGC Global Entertainment Amjad Rasheed met Aditya Chopra at his father’s funeral and guaranteed him that the film has nothing against the country. He states, “I met Aditya Chopra on his father’s funeral and he assured me that the film is not against Pakistan or its security agencies and it does not have any negative religious connotations.
It has a positive vibe overall and I am glad that one of the most awaited films of the year is finally releasing in Pakistan.” The necessary No Objection Certificate for the film took a while much more than usual but all is well that ends well and the final Yash Chopra film will be released on the 16th of November 2012 in Pakistan.

Pakistan, Sri Lanka clash in first T20 semi-final today

COLOMBO: Former champions Pakistan will look to reach their third ICC World Twenty20 final in four editions when they take on Sri Lanka in the first semifinal here at the R Premadasa Stadium today.
The Pakistan vs Sri Lanka match will begin at 6:30 pm according to Pakistan Standard Time.
Pakistan had defeated Sri Lanka in 2009 T20 final. Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has termed Greenshirts as favorite and advised them to play Lasith Malinga carefully.
Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistan captain, sounded quite confident at the pre-match press conference on Wednesday. “We believe as a team we can beat them (Sri Lanka),” he said. “Players are playing with positive intentions and they have prepared for it. We are not relying on any one player, we are finding a new match-winner.”
Pakistan hold a clear edge over Sri Lanka in Twenty20 Internationals, winning six of the nine meeting between the two sides.
The Greenshirts have won two matches and lost one against the islanders in World Twenty20s. Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the 2009 tournament.
Hafeez said he and the team management were happy with the team’s progress.
R Premadasa Stadium suits spinners more than pacemen and the Pakistan captain said it would be a good contest between the slow bowlers from both sides.
Pakistan are expected to go with the same combination which played against Australia in their last Group 2 match.
In the game against Australia on Tuesday, their spinners bowled 18 of the 20 overs. However, they might be required to rethink their strategy as Sri Lankans are good players of spin bowling.
Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lankan captain, predicted an exciting semifinal “up against a good quality team” and said his team were looking forward to it. “I think we’ve played each other quite frequently, it’s been a good contest,” he said.
Jayawardene said they weren’t thinking too much about Thursday’s wicket. “For us tactically it’s all about how we go about and play to our strength and how Pakistan responds to our tactics. We just need to keep changing, on the day on the field we need to react. That’s the way to go against Pakistan.”
He said Sri Lank would be ready for the contest.
Speaking of the battle between Ajmal and Mendis, Jayawardene said: “Those guys have been playing for almost I don’t know five-six years now, so I don’t know whether there’s enough mystery in it. Lot of the guys have played them, you have to give them credit that they are two quality spinners.
Teams:
Pakistan (probable): Mohammad Hafeez (capt), Imran Nazir, Nasir Jamshed, Kamran Akmal (wk), Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Raza Hasan.
Sri Lanka (probable): Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Angelo Mathews, Jeevan Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanne, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Akila Dananjaya, Ajantha Mendis.

PEMRA BANS INDIAN CHANNELS: A new Hope For Pakistan’s Drama Industry!

The broadcast of Foreign Channels,to be specific, Indian Channels has had been a major clause of dispute in between the Cable operators and the PEMRA and now finally it comes to an end with PEMRA’S decision of banning all Indian channels in the country.

According to the latest reveals, Pakistan’s Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has    now finally banned all the channels of the neighbouring country as a reciprocation of their anti-ISI movie, Ek Tha Tiger. The movie was not only deprived of being showcased in Pakistani Cinemas, but now the channels promoting it are also a victim. It has been leaked out that the foreign channel, airing Indian serials was warned about their activities and the fact that PEMRA would block the broadcast if they did not put an end to the anti-ISI motives and themes, but no satisfactory replies were reciprocated.

On the other hand, taking the full advantage of the circumstances, a petition was filed against the foreign channel, mutually by Express Entertainment, ARY Digital, Hum TV, TV One and Geo Entertainment and resulted in the complete ban of these Channels
At this time, Pakistan is deprived of its access to YouTube and important IPs been blocked as an action taken against anti-Islamic Activities, and now the TV Channels are saturated too. Accepting that it was equally essential to put an end to the foreign channel promotions in the country for the welfare of the local channels, it is way too frustrating for the followers of these channels who have now noway to access their favourite serials, not even through YouTube.
Now that the country is all left with its local channels, It seems like Pakistan is soon going to cut every means of communication with the world outside, only making things difficult for the Pakistani Citizens.
It is important to mention here that other Islamic Countries like Iran have now unblocked the Google IPs (that they blocked along with YouTube for the Religious purpose), beleiving that this was a wrong and self destroying way of protest.

Hoping for some sensible decisions been taken by the Authorities in Pakistan too,
All for Now....
Regards,
Admin
