Why Wadeira ka beta? Why not, Jutt ka beta, chaudhary ka beta, maulvi ka beta?
Ali Gul Pir: I believe the term “Waderai Ka Beta” is so generic yet expressive that my job of addressing the issue regarding their misuse of power is done without drawing any ethenic or religious lines.WKB is about any influential person, who could be the son of a bureaucrat or the son of feudal lord’s son.
iE: What’s your story? How did you come up with this idea?
Ali Gul Pir: Not worthy of telling as such. I am a comedian and am trained to be a film maker and like many upcoming filmmakers I was broke as hell.One day I woke up in my apartment and their was no power and I being a comedian, expressed my frustration through a song.Nothing particularly inspiring.
iE: Your fans out there think you look very desi-cool in the video with your kala kurta and aviators. Is it true? What has the fan mail been like?
Ali Gul Pir: Oh I owe a lot to to my fans, they all have made me who I am in a matter of one week.Which is huge. Well I was supposed to look like a desi but branded boy and I managed to register that in the video and that added the video.However I must mention that more than my wardrobe its the Mustache that has created a cult of its own and people have made countless images using that mustache.
iE: Did you anticipate your song to get this viral?
Ali Gul Pir: A little yes, but certainly not this much at all.
iE:. How does it feel to be the most-talked about singer these days?
Ali Gul Pir: First of all I must clarify that I am not a professional singer. I can write and rap with Vital Saeens, my musical group, but that is also comedic in nature. This is just one aspect of many things that i would want to do to entertain. But it feels great and I believe that God has been very gracious with me and fans are just a portal of all the blessings.Inshallah I’ll try my best not to dissapoint them in the future.
iE: Are you mocking desi accents in the song when you say “versus kay jootey…sweater arrmani”? But we have to accept, it was one of the funniest moments in the song.
Ali Gul Pir: Well I am not mocking any accents there , im just reflecting what I have seen. I know people who would wear branded clothes but cant event pronounce their names. On the other hand since I myself am a Sindhi and hail from Dadu I didn’t even think twice about making fun of my my own identity , im just being who i am in the work i do.
iE: We have all seen the video clip of “behind-the-scenes”. Were there any more episodes like that? Tell us the most interesting one.
Ali Gul Pir: Of-course there were, but not all of them can be shared *laughs*
iE:. What do you mean to do when you create music which is both creative in terms of lyrics and catchy in term of tune but still potent with fun? Is it just to make people laugh, or is there something more?
Ali Gul Pir: Before I began this project, I knew how it will come together but I needed the right team to make it happen. Like I said I am comedian, the lyrical content came natural to me but the tune was arranged by Abdul Aziz and Hamad Khan, members of Vital Saeens. My purpose was to make people laugh and let them have a good time,nothing else.But like any piece of poetry every reader/listner comes up with his/her own interpretation so its upto them.However one thing is for sure that it was not meant to target any specific political personality or party.
iE:. Do you have any songs in the pipeline? Any “Saeen ki bachi”…?
Ali Gul Pir: Yes there are but can’t really talk about them right now. Fingers crossed.
iE: Your parting message for our readers and your fans?
Ali Gul Pir: I Just want people to know that they have the power to do what they want to do. One does not have to fall in one category or follow a system, if you want to change the way things are done then do it. Use internet, as a tool to express and connect with people who think like you without any buffer. Possibilities are limitless!
